For more than 4,000 years Portugal has been home to the intentional growing of grapes for wine. The Tartessians, Phoenicians, Greeks and Romans increased the plantings along the hills alongside the rivers on the Western side of the Iberian Peninsula. Fast forward to 1990 when Cabriz was founded and to 1999 when the winery was finished after a four year construction.
This red is a blend of Alfrocheiro, Aragonez and Touriga Nacional. Its deep ruby color and aromas of ripe berries and spice are just the lure to lift the glass and take the first sip. Raspberries, tart cherries and hints of toasty oak envelope your taste buds in a smooth, rich elegance of silky tannins on a crazy long finish.
Go online and find a Portuguese dish that suits your fancy. Salt Cod, Octopus and Sardines will pair well with this red. You might also try a wild boar chop with red wine reduction with a potato and chorizo frittata.
